Fats are a type of nutrient that our bodies need to function properly. They help to provide energy, keep our skin and hair healthy, and protect our organs. Fats also play a role in the absorption of certain vitamins, such as A, D, E, and K, which are fat-soluble vitamins, meaning that they need fats to be absorbed by the body.

Fats Facts for Kids Fact Number 2: Saturated Fats, Unsaturated Fats, and Trans Fats

There are different types of fats, including saturated fats, unsaturated fats, and trans fats. Saturated fats are found mostly in animal products, such as butter, cheese, and meat, while unsaturated fats are found in plant-based foods like nuts, seeds, and vegetable oils. Trans fats are often found in processed foods like cookies, crackers, and fried foods and are considered to be the least healthy type of fat.

Eating a diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins, along with good fats, can help to promote overall health and reduce the risk of disease.
