Abu Simbel
Abu Simbel is a famous ancient temple complex in Egypt, built over 3,000 years ago by Pharaoh Ramses II. Carved into a mountainside near the Nile River, these massive temples are known for their giant statues of the pharaoh and beautiful wall carvings that tell stories of ancient Egyptian gods and kings. Every year, people visit Abu Simbel to see a special event called the Sun Festival, when sunlight shines directly into the temple and lights up statues inside. The temples were once at risk of being lost under water, but a huge international effort moved them to higher ground to save them. Abu Simbel is a symbol of ancient Egypt’s amazing architecture and the power of teamwork to protect history.
