The coasts of Australia are much easier to live by than the centre of the country. The weather is cooler by the coast and there are many jobs and opportunities there. Australia is a massive country but most of the land in it is inhospitable. This area is called the ‘Outback’ and it is very hot and is home to many wild animals.
Australia has lots of animals that live there because of the interesting environment there. Some of the animals that live in Australia are kangaroos, koalas, dingo, and wallabies. These interesting animals are just a few that only live in Australia.
They also have a lot of camels in Australia because of the hot weather. There are even more camels in Australia than in Egypt.
The Aboriginal Australians were the ones who lived there before anyone moved there. They started out as hunter gatherers. Historians did DNA testing of the Aboriginal people that still live in Australia today and found out that they have been settled there for over 60,000 years.
There were over 700 aboriginal languages and many of the people spoke more than one language. 250 of those languages are still in use today.
One of Australia’s best tourist attractions is the rock formation called Uluru. It is in the Red Zone of the Outback but it still gets around 300 millimetres of rain every year. When it rains heavily the water cascades down the rock and creates beautiful waterfalls. Uluru is a sacred site to the aboriginal people of Australia and the Anangu people have lived in that area for over 40,000 years.
Even though Australia is known to be very hot it snows in some parts of Australia. The Australian alps get more snow every year than the Swiss Alps in Switzerland. This is because the Australian alps are near the beach so there is more rain which falls as snow because of the cold weather. The Australian Alps are the only place in Australia where there are mountains higher than 2,000 metres tall.
