The Egyptians knew about electricity! They noticed the power that came from touching an electric eel! They even used to use this as a cure for a headache, I think I’ll stick to a lie down instead!
We have electricity inside us all! Our hearts muscles work by being contracted by electricity in our bodies, and the little machines you might have seen in hospitals measuring your heart beat are actually measuring the electric pulses!
Do you know why birds are able to sit on power lines safely? It’s because they are only touching one, if they touched two at once then they would create a circuit and electricity would jump through them – that would be really dangerous!
Electric eels aren’t the only electric animals! Sharks actually have little receptors all over their bodies that can pick up the electric pulses that are happening in smaller fish all around them so they don’t actually have to see their prey to catch it!
