Gratitude Ways for Kids Way Number 1: Keep a Gratitude Journal

Keeping a gratitude journal is a great way to practice gratitude daily. Writing in your gratitude journal can be easily incorporated into your everyday life and by writing in your journal at the same time everyday you can create a habit to practice gratitude.

A gratitude journal allows you to focus your mind and write things down so that you can understand yourself and your values more clearly. It gives you a space to give thanks for all things you have in life that you may sometimes forget in the craziness of life.

A good tip is to use gratitude prompts when you begin writing a gratitude journal to help guide you. Examples of some prompts you  may use are, “My favourite part of the day is… Something beautiful I saw today was…, One thing I adore about my body is.

Gratitude Ways for Kids Way Number 2: Express Gratitude Through Kindness

If you feel like you don’t have time to keep a gratitude journal or write down things that you are grateful for, another way you can practice gratitude is through kindness. Including an act of kindness in your life each day will not only make someone else’s day better but you will also feel better in yourself. Acts of kindness can be small yet very powerful.

You can easily show someone you are grateful for them by helping them with chores or show kindness by holding the door open for someone.  Expressing gratitude verbally is also a way for you to practice gratitude, actually telling someone you care and value them and are grateful for them is worth its weight in gold.

Gratitude Ways for Kids Way Number 3: Remember The Hard Times

To be truly grateful, you should spend time remembering the hard times that you once experienced. You shouldn’t dwell on these times but occasionally thinking back to tough times in your life allows you to realise just how far you have come since then.

Making that contrast from your past traumas to your life now makes you feel grateful for what your life is like now. It also allows you to remember your resilience and just how capable you are to get through hard times in your life.

Gratitude Ways for Kids Way Number 4: Notice The Beauty in Nature each Day

An easy way to practice gratitude is to see the beauty in nature every day. Nature is beautiful so this shouldn’t be so difficult. If you are feeling down, simply going for a walk outside and saying what you are grateful for can really lift your spirits.

You may be grateful for the leaves turning colours in Autumn because you love the colours red and orange or you may see a family of birds and remember how grateful you are for your family. These grateful thoughts will allow you to practice gratitude.

Gratitude Ways for Kids Way Number 5: Switch Negative Thoughts for Positive Thoughts

In order to practice gratitude you need to think of positive things in your life. When you think of a negative thought try and change your mindset to see the positive side in a situation. Focus on your strengths, not your weaknesses. Practicing gratitude means embracing challenges and turning them into opportunities for you to grow.
