Writing Letter ‘n’ Phonics Sounds for Kids Phase 1

How to write down the letter ‘n’? There is a method that teaches the kids how to write down the letter ‘n’ correctly and this method usually makes it all much easier for the kids later on. In jolly phonics, the process of writing the letter ‘n’ is “moving down then up again and over the bridge”.

In jolly phonics, the sounds that the letters in the English alphabet produce are usually linked to some sounds in the real world that are produced by different objects. That way it becomes much easier for the child to recognize these letters later on. In the case of letter ‘n’ the sound is always linked to the aeroplane and that’s why the kids will not be only making the sound, but they will also be making the movement with their hands.

All that is needed for this lesson to teach the kids how to write down the letter ‘n’ is one paint color, an earbud or a brush, and a piece of paper. The parent will write the letter ‘n’ several times on the paper and then ask the child to trace those letters with the paint. The kid could get creative and trace them in a dot line shape or just in an ordinary straight line.

Before coming to the part of asking the child to trace the letter, there are a couple of steps that should be taken first. At the beginning, make sure the kid recognises the letter and can identify it, then move on to the part of knowing whether they can identify its phonetic sound or not, and then comes the final part of tracing the letter and then letting them write it down on their own without tracing anything.

Phonics and writing the alphabet letters are two intertwined lessons, the kid should always know the sound of the letter he/she is learning to write down, although on the other side, some kids follow the jolly phonics method which teaches the kids the sounds of the letters before they could even write these letters down.

There are different games and phonics activities played for the purpose of teaching the child to recognize and identify the letter written down in front of him/her, manage to make the letter’s sound correctly, and eventually come to the part of learning to write these letters down.

Phonics is all about the sounds related to the alphabet letters and how they are supposed to be pronounced correctly, but some words out there do not follow a specific phonetic pattern and those are the ones referred to as tricky words, which the kids get to learn alone in order to know the difference they carry.

Play-doh, Lego blocks, and paint are the three different methods we decided to use in order to play different games with the kids and manage to educate them and teach them something related to the English alphabet. Games are always effective because kids love to play generally and even if they gave wrong answers and made mistakes, it would still be interesting for them to know the right ones.

Choosing the method of playing some games with the children is one of the favorite to us because we believe that the kids will always get more excited and interested in the lesson they are taught if it is delivered to them in the way they always find all the fun in, which is through playing and games.
