Today we are going to explore five amazing facts about zebras for kids.

Zebras Facts for Kids Fact Number 1: Zebras Stripes

Zebras stripes have loads of functions, and I bet you can’t guess this one. Most people think their stripes are for camouflage, and even to confuse predators when they are in a big group – I think I’d be confused!

But scientists have noticed that Zebras stripes seem to help them avoid being attacked by flies and other pests! But they aren’t sure why it works just yet!

Zebras Facts for Kids Fact Number 2: Different Kinds of Zebras

There are three different kinds of zebras in the wild, and each one has its own kinds of stripes! There are loads of variations, but some are black and white while others are dark brown and off-white, some have stripes on their ears and some don’t. But even with all of these patterns, no two zebras look exactly alike!

I bet when you picture zebras you picture them in the desert, with giraffes and lions, but have you heard of the mountain zebra? It is really good at climbing mountains and makes its home 6,500 feet high in the mountains.

Zebras Facts for Kids Fact Number 4: Fighting Zebras

Have you ever seen a zebra in a fight? They actually have a few moves up their striped sleeves, they can kick, bite and even push their predators, the herd will also come to the rescue if one zebra is attacked, they will form a circle to ward off the predator!

Zebras Facts for Kids Fact Number 5: Zebroids

Have you seen the species of zebra that have been created by humans breeding them with more domesticated breeds like horses and donkeys? Well, they are called Zebroids, but when you look at each individually they are called Zedonks, Zorses and Zonies!
