Learn the alphabet ABC’s in English
Teaching kids the alphabet is one of the most interesting things parents could do when it comes to homeschooling. Still, there are a couple of things which they are supposed to pay attention to: first will be the ways kids memorise the order of the letters, and second will be how they pronounce them; phonics is very important.
There are different ways that parents and teachers depend on when it comes to teaching their kids the alphabet; some might depend on singing a song, others might depend on playing games, while some parents might depend on shapes and toys to let the kids relate every single letter to something that its name starts with that letter. For example, always having a cat to use while teaching the kids the letter “C” and how to spell it correctly.
The idea of using objects, animals and different things used and seen in ordinary days is helpful and needed because sometimes letters are named and pronounced differently. Again, the letter “C” is an example for that, because the way it is pronounced as a name is not usually the same way it is pronounced when placed in words, such as spelling the word “cat”, and “cotton” which will be different than “cinema”, and so on.
This video is focusing on two important things that kids should be taught, but it is better to go through them in groups and not bulks in order to give their minds the chance to take it all in and at the same time be able to remember them later on. The first thing is teaching them the letters in general in the correct order and then moving forward to the step of teaching them how to pronounce them, in other words, teaching them more about phonics (What is Phonics).
There are different games that parents and teachers could play with the kids at home and school to make sure that they know the English alphabet and know the phonics sounds for every single letter. One of these games is matching the sounds they hear with the letters that are placed in front of them (Phonics for Kids) and it could be also the phonetics games about the sounds of the letters which the kids could listen to and then tell the letter without having to choose between some placed in front of them.
There are still lots of other games and activities that one could come up with, such as the tricky words which parents and teachers might say and give the kids the chance to write them down (Tricky Words for Kids), this game might be more applicable for older kids who have gone through all the learning phases related to the alphabet, but it is still one idea for the parents to keep in mind.
The alphabet, the numbers, teaching kids math, science or just telling them some bedtime stories, are all things that parents homeschooling their kids are doing and that’s why they will be always searching for different methods and new ideas that would excite the kids to learn and keep them interested during the whole lesson they are given, so parents should always be creative and search for the right resources that will help them.
